CELPIP re-evaluation: cost, timeline and when it is worth it
How to ask Paragon to look at your CELPIP score again, what it costs, how long it takes, and how to decide whether your result is worth the request.
You can apply for a re-evaluation of some or all CELPIP components within six months of your test date, online in your CELPIP Account. You pay a fee when you apply, set by the components you choose, and Paragon gives you the outcome in about one to two weeks.
In practice it is only worth it for Writing and Speaking, which are scored by trained raters; Paragon says re-evaluating Listening or Reading is unlikely to change anything because they are computer rated. Each component can be re-evaluated once, the request cannot be cancelled, and the fee for a component comes back if its level changes.
Read from Paragon's CELPIP Results page (updated 24 September 2026) and its Policies & Forms page on celpip.ca on 18 October 2026. Paragon does not publish the fee amount. celpipmocks.com is independent and not affiliated with Paragon Testing Enterprises.
How CELPIP re-evaluation works
Everything Paragon says about re-evaluation on its public pages, in one place.
| Question | Paragon's answer |
|---|---|
| Who can apply | Any test taker, for some or all components of the test |
| Deadline | Within six months of the test date |
| Where | Online, signed in to your CELPIP Account |
| Fee | Paid when you apply, and set by the components you choose. The amount is not on Paragon's public pages |
| If your level changes | The fee for that component is refunded |
| How many times | Once per component |
| Cancelling | Not possible: requests are final sale once submitted |
| How long it takes | About one to two weeks after you apply and pay |
Paragon words the refund in two ways. Its CELPIP Results page, updated on 24 September 2026, refunds the fee for any re-evaluated component whose level changes. Its Policies & Forms page refunds it when the Speaking or Writing score or level goes up. Either way, a higher level in Writing or Speaking gets that component's fee back. Neither page says whether a level can also go down.
Writing and Speaking can change. Listening and Reading almost never do.
Listening and Reading are multiple choice. Every answer is marked right or wrong by computer and a blank counts as wrong, so a second look has nothing to reinterpret. That is why Paragon warns that re-evaluating them is unlikely to change your score.
Writing and Speaking are rated by people. Each speaking performance is rated by three to five raters and each writing performance by four to six, working independently, on four dimensions with five performance levels each, and Paragon checks how closely its raters agree. A re-evaluation asks for that rating to be looked at again, so these are the two components where a level can realistically move.
Paragon's raters have at least an undergraduate degree, are native speakers of English or at CLB 11 or 12, hold an ESL teaching certification recognised by TESL Canada or graduate training in language education or linguistics, have at least three years of experience, and live in Canada at the time of scoring.
When a re-evaluation is worth it
Worth weighing when
- •You are one level short in Writing or Speaking, and that level matters. A program that needs CLB 7 in every ability when you got 6, or CLB 9 for the higher Express Entry points when you got 8.
- •Your other components already meet the target. A re-evaluation cannot fix a Listening or Reading shortfall, so if one of those is also short you may need a retake anyway.
- •You are inside the six months and can wait one to two weeks. If an application deadline is close, check the dates before you pay.
Probably not worth it when
- •The shortfall is in Listening or Reading. Paragon itself says those are unlikely to change.
- •You are two or more levels short. This is our judgement, not Paragon's: it publishes nothing on how often or how far levels move, and we would not plan around a jump of two.
- •You cannot wait. The answer takes about one to two weeks, and the request cannot be withdrawn once it is in.
Paragon does not publish how often re-evaluations change a level, so nobody can honestly quote you a success rate. Treat any figure you see online with care.
Re-evaluation or a retake?
| What differs | Re-evaluation | Retake |
|---|---|---|
| What it covers | The components you choose, rated again | A new test, every component scored afresh |
| Cost | A fee shown in your account, refunded for a component whose level changes | $299 plus tax for CELPIP-General, with no retake discount |
| Time to a result | About 1 to 2 weeks | Scores 2 to 4 business days after the new test date |
| Risk | Paragon's pages do not say whether a level can go down | Any component can come out lower than last time |
| Limit | Once per component | No more than one test session within 5 calendar days |
If you book a retake while you wait for a re-evaluation, remember the cancellation rule: cancel 7 or more calendar days before the test and half the fee comes back, later than that and nothing does. CELPIP test fee has the full transfer and refund rules.
How often a Writing result lands one level short
The results where a re-evaluation is worth weighing are the ones exactly one level under a line that matters. On this site we can see how often that happens.
Of 426 Writing attempts we marked up to 18 October 2026:
| Writing level reached | Share of attempts | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 18.5% | One level under CLB 7 |
| 8 | 25.4% | One level under CLB 9 |
| 7 or higher | 65.5% | Meets CLB 7 |
| 9 or higher | 8.9% | Meets CLB 9 |
So about one Writing attempt in five lands one level under CLB 7, and one in four one level under CLB 9. Had those been real test scores, they are the results where the re-evaluation question would come up.
We leave Speaking out. Our speaking evaluation changed on 14 October 2026 for the three tasks that use a picture, and earlier estimates are not comparable with later ones. We will add Speaking once there is enough newer data.
Practice attempts on celpipmocks.com, not official results, and attempts rather than people. Writing levels are estimates from our evaluation against the four CELPIP writing dimensions, described on how we evaluate. They are not Paragon's ratings and say nothing about how Paragon's re-evaluations turn out.
Applying for a CELPIP re-evaluation
- •Check the date. You have six months from your test date.
- •Sign in to your CELPIP Account. Paragon lists re-evaluation as an online request made from your account.
- •Choose the components. Writing, Speaking or both. Choosing Listening or Reading is unlikely to change anything.
- •Pay the fee shown. Once you submit, the request is final.
- •Wait for Paragon's answer. About one to two weeks.
Paragon does not show the request screens on its public pages, so the exact steps in your account may look different. Facts on this page were read from Paragon's CELPIP Results and Policies & Forms pages on celpip.ca on 18 October 2026.

How much does a CELPIP re-evaluation cost?
Paragon does not publish the amount on its public pages. You pay when you apply, the fee depends on which components you choose, and the fee for a component is refunded if its level changes.
How long does a CELPIP re-evaluation take?
About one to two weeks after you submit the request and pay the fee, according to Paragon.
How long do I have to apply for a CELPIP re-evaluation?
Six months from your test date. The request is made online, signed in to your CELPIP Account.
Can a re-evaluation change my CELPIP Reading or Listening score?
Very unlikely, and Paragon says so itself: those components are multiple choice and computer rated, so there is little for a re-evaluation to change. Writing and Speaking, which are rated by people, are where a level can move.
Can I cancel a CELPIP re-evaluation request?
No. Paragon treats re-evaluation requests as final sale once submitted, and each component can be re-evaluated only once.
What is the CELPIP re-evaluation success rate?
Paragon does not publish one, so a rate quoted online is not from Paragon. What Paragon does say is that Listening and Reading are unlikely to change, and that the fee comes back for a component whose level changes.
