CELPIP Writing Practice Test 2

CELPIP Writing Practice Test 2 is a free, full-length CELPIP writing test for the 2026 format. It follows the real exam: two tasks in 53 minutes, with about 27 minutes for Task 1 and 26 minutes for Task 2, and an automatic move to Task 2 when the first timer ends. Your submission is evaluated by CELPIP experts and returned with a CLB band score and detailed feedback, so this is a realistic way to practise CELPIP email writing before test day.

What is in this CELPIP writing test?

Task 1 is Writing an Email, and the required register here is an informal email to a neighbour. You are planning a week-long trip to visit your elderly parents and cannot take your friendly dog, Biscuit, with you. Your neighbour has looked after him before. In about 150 to 200 words, ask your neighbour to look after your dog, describe his daily routine and any special instructions, and offer to do something in return.

Task 2 is Responding to Survey Questions. Your company is reviewing how staff work each week and asks you to choose between working from the office five days a week or from home most days. Pick one option and explain your reasons in about 150 to 200 words. Argue for the option you selected; switching sides midway lowers your task fulfilment score.

Informal email: what the experts look for

Task 1 here is an informal email, so a warm, friendly tone is expected. A strong informal CELPIP email still has a clear purpose and covers every bullet point, but it uses a relaxed greeting, everyday vocabulary and a personal voice, as you would when writing to a neighbour or friend. Writing an overly formal, stiff email for an informal prompt is a common mistake, and our evaluation applies a penalty when the register does not match the task, so practise hitting a natural, friendly tone here.

How your writing is scored

Both tasks are evaluated by CELPIP experts against the official descriptors on four criteria: Content and Coherence (30%), Vocabulary (20%), Readability (25%) and Task Fulfilment (25%), each scored 1 to 12 and combined into a weighted band. Your results include an overall band, a breakdown by criterion, an overall feedback summary, error highlights (mistakes in red, corrections in green), and a polished high-band rewrite so you can see how to reach CLB 9 and above.

Tips for this test

• Plan for two or three minutes: jot your purpose and the details of the dog's routine before you write.
• Keep the informal email warm and natural, but still cover all three bullet points clearly.
• In Task 2, state your choice of office or home in the first sentence, then give two developed reasons.
• Aim for 150 to 200 words per task and leave time to fix small grammar and spelling errors.
