What is on this listening test?
Part 1, Listening to Problem Solving is a woman whose season pass never arrived and the man at the ticket window of a small ski hill north of the city. They have not met before, and it runs in three audio sections with questions after each.
Part 2, Daily Life Conversation is two friends who live in Gatineau and cross the river to work, talking on the bus about a compressed work week.
Part 3, Listening for Information is a man who owns a woodlot and a woman who produces maple syrup, working out what leasing taps in his sugar bush would involve.
Part 4, Listening to a News Item is a single voice on a flood buyout programme, ten years after the flood.
Part 5, Listening to a Discussion is Benoit, Jacinthe and Yvon, three parents on the board of a daycare cooperative, talking about a waiting list they cannot clear.
Part 6, Listening for Viewpoints is a prepared talk to a municipal committee by the head of the urban forestry programme, after a beetle took a street of ash trees.

What makes this one hard
The sugar bush conversation in Part 3 is a negotiation, so the terms move while you listen and the version that counts is the last one. The daycare discussion in Part 5 has three people who all want the list cleared and disagree entirely about how, which produces the strongest distractors in the test. And the forestry talk in Part 6 argues about what to plant next rather than about the beetle, so a candidate listening for the beetle will answer the wrong question well.
